Why ‘Her’ Will Dominate UI Design Even More Than ‘Minority Report’

“One of the first things you notice about the “slight future” of Her, as Jonze has described it, is that there isn’t all that much technology at all. The main character Theo Twombly, a writer for the bespoke love letter service BeautifulHandwrittenLetters.com, still sits at a desktop computer when he’s at work, but otherwise he rarely has his face in a screen.”Wired

Don’t use Google Public DNS in Germany

You shouldn’t use and as your nameservers in Germany (or Europe), it will slow down your connection and needlessly redirect your requests. When using Google Public DNS, many of the large Content Delivery Networks (CDN) will think you are located in the US and will offer you servers that are located there.

Google now has servers in Berlin and Frankfurt and other locations in the EU, so you’re probably safe using Google DNS in Germany or the EU.

A few days ago I removed all my likes on Facebook. I have approximately 130 friends on Facebook, I know each one. And here’s the surprise: my feed is basically empty, there are about 4-5 entries a day. It really seems that people are using Facebook as a messenger and consume news of liked pages. I’m unsure whether this is a healthy development.

I deleted the mobile Facebook apps on my iOS devices, though I may install the new Facebook Messenger when available. I use Twitter to follow interesting people and news sites, which imho still is the perfect and most convenient way.

Facebook now allows promotions on Timeline

This is huge:

“Now, promotions may be administered on Page Timelines and in apps on Facebook. For example, businesses can now:

  • Collect entries by having users post on the Page or comment/like a Page post
  • Collect entries by having users message the Page
  • Utilize likes as a voting mechanism

As before, however, businesses cannot administer promotions on personal Timelines.”

This might hit agencies as many companies will at least try once to hold a promotion on their timeline. We will certainly see a lot of rubbish promotions in the near future.

Nieder mit dem Adblocker

Ich hab’s satt. Ich kann es nicht mehr hören. Dieses unsäglich dämliche Gerede über Adblock Plus. Warum?
