Recalibrating the iPhone home button
I’m sure most of you experienced an unreliable or only sometimes functioning home button on your iPhone. It seems that you can recalibrate it:
- Open any application
- Hold the power button until the slide to shutdown appears
- Release the power button
- Hold your home button lightly until the app icons reappear
This has worked for many users.
Apple’s Next Big Thing Already Here: Siri More Than Speech Recognition, Analyst Asserts
Forbes:
Siri is unique because it meshes voice recognition capabilities with both sophisticated artificial intelligence capabilities and tight integration with the phone’s other software — such as its calendar and address book — and its GPS system. That allows the software to not just recognize a spoken command, but react differently based on where a user is and who the user knows, ask for clarification, and follow a long string of related commands. “Quite simply, we have not seen a demonstration of comparable AI in any other consumer system,” Cross writes.

Steve Jobs, 2005:
“Remembering that you are going to die is the best way I know to avoid the trap of thinking you have something to lose. You are already naked. There is no reason not to follow your heart.”
The iPhone 4S Feels New, Even If It Looks Old
Bits, NYTimes:
A letdown, after months of hype that Apple doesn’t feed, but doesn’t quell either, isn’t unusual with Apple product introductions. It happened after several phone iterations and even with the iPad. (Remember the antenna that was to doom the company or the misnaming of the tablet?) All those devices have gone on to sell extremely well.
Volker Weber makes another good point. I’m sure Apple made a clever move and I’m excited to preorder my 4S on friday. And thanks to Siri, you can now tell your phone to “remind you to call someone when you leave the office, find a reservation for a restaurant and text message or call people by name”. I’m very excited.
