We need an exit from Google

Dave Winer:

I did an image search the other day and it made me stand up and pace. They were showing me posts on Google Plus with pictures from people they know I know because I email with them in Gmail. I don’t want to go there. I want search to be search and just that. I want the same search everyone else gets unless I specifically ask it to search images from people I know who are using Google-Plus. There are times I don’t want to be marketed to. Like when I’m using image search. That’s almost always part of creative work. I will do the driving Google. Thanks.

Google Music web app for iOS

Google Music, iPhone 4

A fantastic working and looking Google Music web app has just been released for iOS. Open http://music.google.com in Mobile Safari and off you go. It even works when you hide Safari and use other apps. Google Music has been of my favourite and most used web apps in the last months.

(I have 2 invites for Music beta to give away. Please mail me your email address associated with your Google Account, if you’re interested. It works in Germany.)

Google’s Customers

John Gruber, Daring Fireball:

Why do people complain that Google doesn’t offer customer support via the phone? Of course they do. For their actual customers: advertisers.

“Google doesn’t get people, it sells them”

Don Norman:

“They have lots of people, lots of servers, they have Android, they have Google Docs, they just bought Motorola. Most people would say ‘we’re the users, and the product is advertising’,” he said. “But in fact the advertisers are the users and you are the product.”

Then he went further. “They say their goal is to gather all the knowledge in the world in one place, but really their goal is to gather all of the people in the world and sell them.”
